OUR PRINCIPLES
In these principles we assert the interdependence of all life. We oppose any destructive processes which are destroying our planet. Not only the recent history has shown us that irresponsible usage of our planet’s resources and goods causes the collapse of basic systems in our environment and in our societies and is therefore a threat for life as such.
” We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. ”
Economy driven by short term profits for only few people has to be replaced by an economy which works in a sustainable network for the common good of all life. We can not accept that a third of the world’s human population is starving while 2% own more than half of global household assets. We favour trade where everyone has a fair share in a society guided by self-reliance and co-operation at all levels. Conservation of resources is vital to a sustainable society. The impact of society on the environment should not be ecologically disruptive.
” Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money. ”
We believe in the equality of every human, no matter what age, ancestry, gender, believe, opinion, disadvantage. We condemn war, violence, militarism, racism, fascism. The need for world peace and justice overrides national and commercial interests.
We want all political, social and economic decisions being taken at the lowest effective level. Decisions should as far as possible be on the basis of consensus and respect for the rights of minorities.
Anybody who supports these principles and wants to work with us for a new sustainable party is more than welcome to our next meeting in the Teacher’s Club, 36 Parnell Square West, Dublin, on Saturday, 24 July 2010. Start at 12 PM, end about 6 PM.
